Richard Murray, (ASCAP) we first heard this great guest on the via "The Whiskey and Cigarettes Show" with Dj Nik. Michael joins us Via zoom from Phoenix, who was prepping for an event prior to joining the show! What got Michael into the Music Industry? Michael Coleman- "after a milestone birthday, managing a law firm, said to self "I'm going to do something with my talent"...that's when see your shadow songwriting started. "I presented my work as an entity, putting forth my work every day." What lead to being 2-time nomination as poet laureate in Ohio? MC- The Ohio arts council makes a recommendation to the governor for poet laureate, so they heard of my work and submitted my name on the list of nominees, and the only professional songwriter on the list, though I didn't get the nomination, it was an achievement. What made you decide to do the edgy and risky things? MC- "never apologize for the art you create".... "When I fill a project, I just run with it." What is the creative process like? MC - "I never know how I am going to be inspired or where it comes from! Many projects start with a couple cocktails, and cocktail napkin seeing what's going on around me. I try to capture the human experience, paying attention to the people who are around me, that where my inspiration comes from. Literally you don't know where your inspiration is going to come from." What's the story of Showdown? MC- That song was co-written by J. Richard Murray. We had never been together in the same room, and he called me up in Nashville. They were gathering songwriters, and we all got together, we didn't know what we were to write about until we got to Nashville, it had to be a poker theme. We had to write the song in 24 hours, never meeting before, and the result of the meeting was Showdown. Wanna to learn more as the discussion talks more about the history of "Rug Burn", and the music of See Your Shadow Songwriting!
